Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) Ondo state chapter have called on the State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu to disband the committee set up by his Special Adviser on Health Matters, Dr Jibayo Adeyeye to midwife the implementation of the state’s contributory healthcare scheme, with exclusion of professionals in the health sector.Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu
In a statement signed by PSN State Chairman, Abiodun Aiyeku and Secretary, Solomon Adetunji described the committee without the inclusion of PSN members as “impunity of the highest order which portends failure for the scheme”.
“sidelining of Pharmacists from the committee is a deliberate attempt by medical doctors in the state, implemented by the SA on Health Matters with malice and primordial interest which could be to the detriment of Akeredolu’s administration,” urging the Governor “to set up an all-encompassing implementation committee to midwife the establishment of the Ondo State Contributory Healthcare Commission (OSCHC), that will involve all stakeholders in the state health sector”.
It recommended that the two most critical position in the Commission, Chairman and General Manager, should not be given to same professional group, requesting that “a seasoned administrator, who is a Pharmacist, be appointed as the General Manager of the commission, since Doctors have been appointed as Special Adviser on Health Matters, Commissioner for Health, Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Health and Hospital Management Board (HMB) and the Executive Secretary of the Primary Healthcare Board.”
While passing a vote of no confidence on the SA on Health Matters and calling for his voluntary resignation, PSN urged Akeredolu to immediately probe the activities of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) at the local government level, which it says lacks transparency.Related
