YENAGOA—BAYELSA State House of Assembly has proceeded on a recess sine die to enable members rest after many months of legislative tasks and passage of over 116 bills.

The Speaker of the House, Konbowei Benson, who made the announcement at the plenary, however, led members through the process of unanimously rejecting a bill before the National Assembly for the establishment of a framework for the water resource sector in Nigeria for the equitable and sustainable development, management, use and conservation of Nigeria’s surface water and ground water resources and related matters.

The rejection of the bill, which was preceded by a motion moved by the member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 1, Kate Owoko, was based on the fact that “it is obnoxious, provocative and targeted at controlling the life styles of the people of the Niger Delta region.”
