Beware of fake news by religious, political leaders, Yagboyaju tells Muslims

Dr. Dhikrulahi Yagboyaju of the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan has said the position of Muslims in the quest for political and socio-economic development is crucial and cannot be ignore urging them to reposition the ummah for better result.

Delivering a lecture titled: “The Muslim Ummah Participation in Politics: 2019 General Elections in View” at the 2018 Post-Ramadan Lecture of the University of Ibadan Muslim Graduates’ Association (UIMGA) held last Sunday at the University of Ibadan Central Mosque, Dr. Yagboyaju also warned the Muslim Ummah against hate speech and peddling of fake news and observed that these twin evils can be more dangerous than wildfire.

The erudite Political Scientist however advised all and sundry, particularly, the acclaimed Journalists, to verify extensively any piece of information churned out by religious leaders and politicians.

Earlier in his welcome speech, the National President of the association, Dr. Saka Adewumi expressed profound gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the programme. He stated that the association has contributed immensely to various topics of national and international interest, adding that apart from organizing lectures and symposia on various issues, many under graduate and post-graduate (M.Sc, Ph.D) students had benefited from the Scholarship/Financial Scheme of the association, code named: University of Ibadan Muslim Graduates’ Association Scholarship Scheme (UIMGASS) to which several millions of Naira had been committed.

The Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Akintunde Carim expressed appreciation to the association for considering him worthy of being the Chairman of such an important occasion. He urged the association not to rest on its oars towards informing the members of the public about their religious and civic rights.

In his own remark, the Chairman of the 2018 Post-Ramadan Planning Committee, Alhaji Kazeem Olayiwola, expressed appreciation to all those who contributed towards the success of the programme.

The occasion was witnessed by members of the association from various states of the federation, those of other sister associations/organizations, invited dignitaries, as well as members of the university community among others.
