ENUGU—AN Anglican priest, Ven. Moses Ifeanyieze has blamed the continued poor performance of students in school certificate examinations on cheating, neglect and poor funding of education by the Federal Government.

Ifeanyieze who is the principal of Union Secondary School, Awkunanaw Enugu made this assertion while speaking to newsmen during the school’s graduation and prize- giving ceremony held in Enugu.

According to him, “I have to blame the government for the mass failure. Are they recruiting people based on merit or based on cronyism? So, government is cheating education. What allocation have they made for education? Teachers are poorly paid and because of that, there is brain drain. The best brains now go for engineering and medicine.

“Because the students are not well taught, they go to the internet to look for answers. They go there to copy what they don’t know and when you do that, you copy wrongly. Some people will even copy WAEC address. So they fail.”
