To make up for the lost year 2020, the Cross River State Government has begun preparations for the 2021 Calabar carnival.

Government’s decision to begin early preparations for the carnival was contained in a statement issued by Christian Ita, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to Governor Benedict Ayade, saying the governor would inaugurate a team to plan the events in the first week of February.

The Guardian recalled that the Calabar carnival did not hold in 2020 following Federal Government’s directive against large crowds and events in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“To commence the 2021 preparations, Governor Ayade, will in the first week of February, inaugurate a content development team to work out modalities that will incorporate all aspects of entertainment into the carnival.

“The aim is to have a carnival that is richer in content, bigger, bolder and better organised. The same team will be responsible for organising this year’s event to mark the Valentine season,” the statement reads.
