CALABAR—A Police Sergeant, (name withheld) serving with the Cross River State Police Command, has allegedly shot and killed his landlady’s daughter , Miss Victoria Effiong at Joseph Nkpang street ,Ikot Ansa ,Calabar Municipality LGA of the state.

The incident Vanguard learned occurred at an unregistered compound at Joseph Nkpang Street along Ikot Ansa when the police officer came back drunk.

He was said to have shot the lady in the neck leading to her death on the spot.

An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity told Vanguard that the Police Sergeant that “came back and was drunk as usual, brought out a locally made pistol which was not his service gun. I ran away from the scene because he has always been doing that and shouting that he wants to kill somebody.

“It was not up to 60 seconds after I left them and ran outside that I heard gunshot. Low and behold before I came back, Victoria was already lying down in her own pool of blood because she had been shot in the neck by the policeman.

“This is not the first time he had been doing this. In fact, it is his nature and every time he came back drunk he would start threatening people with gun and today he had fulfilled what he had been promising us that he would kill somebody one day. He had finally done that.

“He shot Victoria while she was pressing her phone. The man was fiddling with the gun and pulled the trigger. He did it under the influence of alcohol.”

When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident adding that the policeman had been arrested and would be charged to court as soon as possible.

“It is a murder case now and he has been arrested and we are processing the matter so that he can be charged to court immediately, we sympathize with the family of the deceased,” she said.
