FG implores state govts to respect terms of reference on federal roads

THE Federal Government has implored state governments to respect terms of reference of its road infrastructure within their domains, saying it has no objection to their assistance in developing federal roads.

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola while on a two-day inspection tour to Kebbi and Jigawa states, yesterday, said the repairs of federal roads in states will go a long way in deepening the dividends of democracy at the grassroots.

He was received by the Governors Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State and Mohammed Abubakar of Jigawa respectively during inspection of 108km Kalgo-Bunza-Kamba-Peka Road which terminates at the nation’s border with Niger Republic.

The minister also inspected the on-going rehabilitation of Sokoto-Tambuwal-Jega-Birnin Yauri (Sokoto/Kebbi/Niger States) Phase 1 Section 11 and Jega-Birnin Yauri Road (186km), which is only 22.84 per cent completed.

The minister who was impressed with the standard of work, noted that the Federal Government remains committed to partnering with any state government that showed concern in providing critical infrastructure for the benefit of all citizens.

Speaking, Governor Bagudu in response offered the Federal Government as much land as would be required for the full take-off of the programme and also thanked the Federal Government for speedily reimbursing Kebbi State for the Kalgo-Bunza-Kamba-Peka-Niger Republic Border road.

Also responding, Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State invited the minister to help commission eight of the 10 completed state infrastructure, stating that the President had offered to commission two of the projects. He invited the Minister to also inspect the 1,300km road projects completed by his administration as a way of boosting transportation of agricultural products in the state.
