Gambari, IGP, others meet northern governors, monarchs in Kaduna over insecurity

Worried about the insecurity in the country, the Chief of Staff (CoS) to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari; the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu; and some ministers have met governors and traditional rulers in the north to chart a way out of the problem.

The ministers include Lai Mohammed (Information and Culture) and Mohammed Bello (Federal Capital Territory).In the emergency meeting at Kaduna Government House yesterday, the personalities at the opening session could not deliver any address, but only allowed journalists to take photographs.

The meeting, according to a source, was expected to deliberate on various issues of national interest, especially as it affects peace, security and development.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawaln; the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III;, are also at the crucial meeting, which commenced behind closed doors with the governors of Gombe, Nasarawa, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kaduna, Zamfara, Niger and the deputy governors of Katsina, Kogi among others.

Council of chiefs chairmen of all the northern states as well as senators and House of representatives members are also at the meeting.The IGP is expected to brief the meeting on efforts to contain insecurity and issues arising from the #EndSARS protests in the country.
