AKURE—LEADERS of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State, yesterday, pleaded with the immediate past governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko to resuscitate the party instead of dumping it for another political platform.

The former governor and his supporters have reportedly concluded arrangement to move to Labour Party over some disagreement on the national leadership of the party between him and Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State and his Rivers State counterpart, Mr. Nysome Wike respectively.

The Chairman of the party in Ondo State, Clement Faboyede made the appeal when he received the report of the PDP Support Group, PSG, on the way forward for the party after its defeat in the 2016 election.

Faboyede said: “It would be in the interest of the party and the supporters of the former governor to remain and salvage the party instead of dumping it for another political platform.

“Mimiko is our leader until he officially leaves the party. We are appealing to him to stay and provide leadership for our teeming aspirants. Mimiko said he is consulting and he has not finished consultation.

“We hope he will rescind the decision to leave the party. But if he decides to leave the party, we will move on without him.”

Submitting his report earlier, the chairman of PSG, Bode Obanla said his group went around the 18 Local Government areas of the state to appeal to aggrieved members of the party to remain and work for the progress of the party.

Obanla also appealed to the leadership of the party to recall the expelled former Deputy National Youth Leader of the party, Mr. Dennis Alonge-Niyi in order to forge a common front for the forthcoming elections.
