Awka- THE Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, would commence the continuous voters registration (CVR) at INEC offices in all the 21 local government areas and other designated centres in Anambra State today.
The head of voter education and INEC media and publicity secretary in Anambra State, Mr. Leo Ikedife said in a statement in Awka weekend that the exercise would last from Monday to Friday between 9am- 3pm.
According to the statement, eligible voters who had not registered during the previous registration exercises and those who just attained the age of 18 years should avail themselves the opportunity and get registered.
It also urged those who had lost their permanent voters cards and those whose cards were defaced and spoiled or those with incorrect spellings and particulars to use the opportunity to correct such anomalies.
Similarly, the statement continued, people who were transferred from where they registered before should visit the registration centers and have their data transferred to their new places of residence or work.
The commission reminded members of the public that it was an electoral offence with stiff penalty to engage in double registration, adding that in line with section 9(5) of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended, registration of voters ends 60 days before the conduct of a general election.
“All those who have registered before, but have not collected their permanent voters’ cards should visit INEC offices in all the twenty-one local government areas and collect their PVC’s as anyone without Permanent Voter Card (PVC), will not vote during the 2019 general election,” the statement further said..
