CALABAR—Barely 48 hours after two spare parts dealers were kidnapped in Cross Rivers State, another businessman, Mr. Sunday Ekanem, Chief Executive Officer of Akito Rentals in Cross River, has been kidnapped.

Kidnap-syndicate

He was kidnapped at his residence, at Atu Street, off Academy in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State, Saturday night.

The kidnap of Mr. Ekanem was the second in his life, having been abducted before in November 2014.

An eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, said “I am sad because this is the second time they are kidnapping him, he is not a bad man, because he is very humble and down to earth and loves politics too.

A neighbour, Fidelis Ukpong, who spoke with Vanguard said three strange vehicles were seen close to his office at Atu Street, one rickety Audi and others suspected to be monitoring cars.

“Unknown to us, one person was seen on top of one of the cars, making phone calls and giving information to unknown persons, we didn’t know they were kidnappers,” he said.

Wife’s account

Glory, Akito’s wife, who confirmed the kidnap, said she was informed through phone call about the kidnapping of her husband.

She said on telephone: “The way you heard was the same way I was informed ,I got a phone call about the kidnap of my husband that is all I can say for now, I have nothing further to say.

When contacted on phone, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Irene Ugbo, expressed surprise about the kidnap but said the matter has not been reported as at press time.

Her words: “I am not aware. I am only aware of the Igbo guys that were kidnapped. They have not reported this new case yet”
