ONITSHA—THE Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Anambra state chapter has expressed fear that if the current wanton killings and destruction of human lives and properties continue unabated in various parts of the country, the nation’s corporate existence would remain threatened.

CAN is also afraid that the continued killings would endanger the stability of the nation in organizing free and fair elections in the 2019 political dispensation and at the same time, fuel the ongoing agitation for self determination by some ethnic and religious groups in the country.

The state chairman of CAN, Rev. Dr. John Ndubuisi who stated this in a press statement issued to newsmen in Onitsha, yesterday, while condemning the incessant killings in Christian dominated parts of the country, warned that apart from endangering the unity of the country and having an adverse effect on the 2019 election, the perpetrators must also face the judgement of God.

Enjoining Christians to wait upon God whose judgement is final, Ndubuisi who is the head of ‘Evangelical Church Winning All’ bloc of CAN, commiserated with the wailing Plateau community over the most recent loss of her sons and daughters to the herdsmen attacks.

According to him, “Nigerians should all watch and pray because any sleeping state shall be dangerously overtaken and destroyed by the herdsmen as applicable in different states of the nation such as Taraba, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Benue, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Delta, Bayelsa, Ondo, Kwara, Lagos, Oyo and lately Plateau”, adding, “who knows which state shall be their next target?

“Human rights strongly showcases the sanctity of life. Therefore, let us be controlled by the rule of law. Live and let live.”
