Maiduguri—The Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen Rogers Nicholas, yesterday, handed over rescued Chibok girl and two others to Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State for proper registration before handing them to the Federal Government.

The girls were recently rescued after a four-day coordinated ground and aerial military operations against Boko Haram insurgents in Sambisa Forest.

While handing over the girls and a baby at Government House, Maiduguri, Nicholas said the step-up in the onslaught on Boko Haram insurgents resulted in the rescue of the girls and a baby.

According to him, proper registration has to be done by the state government before the girls will be handed to their parents and guardians in Chibok and Pulka.

Governor Shettima, who was represented by his Deputy, Usman Durkwa, said the state government had been expecting the military to rescue the Chibok school girls abducted on April 14, 2014, by the insurgents.

He said: “Within a week of posting to the Theatre Command in Maiduguri, you’re able to rescue our Chibok school girls from Boko Haram captivity. Well done and more grease to your elbows to rescue the remaining 104 abducted girls.”

He said the rescued girls would be handed over to the Federal Government for rehabilitation and counselling in Abuja.
