By Marie-Therese Nanlong. Jos – In order to revamp its business environment and ensure ease of doing business in the State, the Plateau State Government has held a day Sensitization forum on business enabling environment and investment climate to brainstorm on how to create conducive environment to attract domestic and foreign investment in the State. The forum, organized by the Plateau Investment and Property Development Company (PIPC), lays emphasis on how to create an enabling environment for MSMEs to develop and drive the State’s economy.

Simon Lalong Addressing the participants, the State Governor, Simon Lalong, represented by his Deputy, Professor Sonni Tyoden, said his administration was focused on repositioning the business environment hence, agencies like the Plateau Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (PLASMEDA) were established to deal with issues that hinder the economic development of the State. According to him, “Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) play an important role in driving economic growth. Plateau State with a population of about 4.2 million people out of Nigeria’s 2018 estimated population of about 196 million people will have the estimated population of about 1.68million people representing 40% as either unemployed or under-employed. “This raises an economic emancipation alarm which any responsible Government must explore avenues of deliberately addressing, especially when about 944,000 people out of this unemployed or underemployed category fall within the active family age grade of 20-39 years margin in the State. “This forum must in the light of this lay emphasis on how to create an enabling environment and investment climate in Plateau State for MSMEs to develop, while also attracting foreign and domestic investments that will be serviced by these micro businesses.” In a keynote address, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Joshua Madaki commended Gov Simon Lalong for stepping up the ranking of Plateau State in the ease of doing business. In her remarks, Mrs Zinab Waziri of SENID-GIZ, supporters of the event said they provide the German model of entrepreneurship and business model. The Plateau State Chambers of commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PLACCIMA) in a goodwill message said the sensitization forum is to increase awareness of decision makers and key players in bureaucracy on key business enabling environment and investment climate issues and need for quick reforms. The forum had presentations and discussions on Business Enabling Environment and Investment climate in Plateau State by Ezekiel Gomos, Gambo Hamza and Akin Omoware who handled different segments.
