Social Media Bill unnecessary duplication of law, senator tells NASS

Mon Nov 25th, 2019 - Ondo

The Senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Sen. Nicholas Tofowomo, has said that the “Protection from Internet Falsehood and Manipulations Bill, 2019” was an unnecessary duplication of laws for Nigerians.

Tofowomo stated this in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Olumide Akinrinlola, on Monday in Okitipupa.

The senator, who is still recuperating from a ghastly motor accident, said that the aims and objectives of the new bill had already been addressed by the Cybercrime Act, 2015 which was signed into law by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
