The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), has reiterated its warning to consumers on the safe use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and other cylinders in view of recent explosions around the country involving the product.

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), had in its preliminary investigation, attributed the cause of the Kaduna gas explosion to illegal decanting (transfer) of LPG into another cylinder by operators of the facility.

According to SON Director-General, Osita Aboloma, Nigerian consumers should patronise only SON-certified LPG and other cylinders with necessary markings, to safeguard their homes, offices and surroundings from avoidable fire incidents from substandard cylinders.

Aboloma, represented by Group Head, LPG, Nwaoma Olujie, warned importers of cylinders to adhere strictly to the SON procedures for importation of the product, which according to him, is classified as life-endangering.
