Hopes that the Akanu Ibiam International airport, Enugu may reopen for commercial flight operations next month have been rekindled as construction work resumed on Thursday at the airport.
The development is coming two months after work was suspended over the coronavirus pandemic and several months after the airport was closed for repair works.
The Federal Government announced the closure of the airport in August last year to make way for its rehabilitation, repair and expansion of the dilapidated runway. Work had began with Easter this year given as possible date for its reopening.
However, workers of the PW Construction Company, the contractor that won the job, had in the month of March left site over the ravaging coronavirus in the country.
