Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Nigerians have been called upon to vote for empathic servant leaders who have the wellbeing and development of their domains and people at heart.

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Akan Okon, who gave the charge in an interview with The Guardian in Uyo, also cautioned the electorate against selling their consciences through vote selling and buying.

Okon insisted that Nigerians needed a selfless leader with focus on development of society, saying: “Leaders are chosen by God, anybody in position of leadership is ordained by God.

“Nigerians should vote for empathetic leaders, who would focus on the development of the society. Leaders must connect with the people and know the way for them to lead.

Okon stressed that for a better Nigeria to evolve, the people should vote for selfless, compassionate and generous leaders who possess the attributes of Jesus Christ and have the fear of God.

He said Nigerians should source for leaders who could effectively deploy the nation’s resources for the economic development and improvement of their living standard ahead of 2023.

Okon added that such leaders should be good listeners, who could easily connect with the citizens and proffer solutions to the several challenges facing the country.

“We need leaders who can plan and coordinate people with good relationship management principles, because life is all about relationship. We also need people with experience and can be easily accessible,” he added.

He also cautioned the electorate against putting much pressure on people aspiring for elective positions.
