The minister of youth and sports development, Mr Sunday Dare, has charged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to work toward total rebirth of the country’s domestic football leagues and attain the standard quality it deserves.

He gave the charge on Monday when he hosted the U-20 male national team, Flying Eagles, at the Moshood Abiola National Abuja following their victory at the just concluded WAFU B zone championship in Niamey, Niger Republic.

The minister said the performance of the team showed the future of Nigeria’s football is in the hands of the young one and urged the NFF to ensure that they keep the boys together.

‘The future of our football is in the hands of these young ones. look at their faces, ages, talents and skills, Nigeria must not throw that away.

“I want to charge the NFF to keep these boys together and try to engage them in friendly and other football competitions so that the chemistry among the team will be stronger and better.

“FIFA commits extensively to the development of youth football, and any country that passes youth development football will excel because when it comes to the national team, it is the by-products of U17, U20 and the league. So, the lesson is very clear that this country, working with the federation, will continue to focus on youth development and ensure that our domestic league gets a rebirth and attain the quality that we all deserve.

“We will continue to work and support you when necessary and I must say that I am proud of what you have done,’’ Dare said.

Speaking earlier, the general secretary of NFF, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, lauded the minister for his commitment to the growth of the game.
