A new Resident Electoral Commissioner has been appointed for the INEC office in Katsina State.
Prof. Yahaya Ibrahim Makarfi who resumed duty on Monday was received by the Administrative Secretary among other staff of the commission at its head office in Katsina metropolis.
Sa’idu Shehu, the Head of the Voter Education and Publicity Department disclosed this in a statement he sent to DAILY POST on Tuesday.
As contained in the statement, before he was appointed the new REC for Katsina, Prof. Makarfi was the Director, Academic Planning at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. He was also a lecturer at the Faculty of Environmental Design and Quantity Survey Department.
Since the expiration of the tenure of the former REC, Jibrin Zarewa in August 2022, the Admin Secretary, Isah Magaji Gummi has been overseeing the affairs of the commission.
Prof. Makarfi was among the 19 new Resident Electoral Commissioners sworn in on 3 November 2022 by the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu after passing the mandatory Senate screening and final approval of the appointments by President Muhammad Buhari.
